If anyone uses this submersible water pump, especially in their pet fountains, and have found the pump to no longer draw water, make sure you check the pump first before replacing.

What usually happens is pet hair gets caught in the impeller unit. Simply snap open the cap on the side of the pump to open it up. Then remove the pet hair.
But I'd also recommend doing the following:

Take the impeller unit out. If it is stuck, that is the reason why the pump isn't working. What happens in that case is that calcium deposits build up on the magnetic impeller stem making it difficult for the impeller to spin. I ran into this problem recently and pulled it out with a pair of pliers. Then, pour CLR or a calcium deposit remover over it to rid of any deposits. For really tough buildup take some sandpaper and gently rub it around the magnetic stem. Make sure you wash it thoroughly (you dont want your pet drinking it). Then replace.

Also thought my pump was fried. Read another review saying there are 2 parts of the pump that will come apart to clean - knew about the first part - not the 2nd - when I dismantled the pump further - found the white spinny part that was clogged w/cat hair - cleaned it and pump is as good as new!

This is the product to get. Even with the filters, depending on the environment around your fountain, sometimes your pump will just burn out. So rather than buy a whole new fountain, just buy the pump kit. It replaces everything from the wall adapter to the pump (2 pieces).
