I bought this as a replacement for a plastic pet fountain that was a chore to clean. So far this is working out quite nicely. It's a bit smaller, more aesthetically pleasing to look at on the kitchen floor, and, most importantly, easier to clean. The other one would build up a thin layer of slippery slime in spots that were very difficult to reach. However, the last time that I cleaned this new one I must have inadvertently slid the water pressure dial to a higher setting causing water to bubble out of the top of the waterslide more strongly, to the point that water shot past the slot in the trough to the bowl and over the top edge instead. For those of you that appreciate a sports analogy -- if the water comes down too fast it runs up the side of the bowl like a snowboarder on a half-pipe and out over the edge.I didn't notice that problem until I came back to a small pool of water on the floor. The moving water of the bowl really does get the cats to drink more water. The only drawbacks are having to change the filter, and the bowl does splash a little.However if you use brita water the filters last a long time.
