5.0 out of 5 stars better and cheaper than Drinkwell, October 5, 2006
I first bought another brand of these called the Drinkwell. With the optional resevoir and cleaning kit and with shipping it cost me $70. The Drinkwell has a relatively loud pump noise that comes from under the bowl part which spooked the cats the first few days (ands drives me nuts so I have to unplug it at night even though it's three rooms away from my bedroom). but once they got over the noise, the cats loved it so much that I would have liked a second (I have multiple food/water stations) but the price made that impossible.

The other day I was at my local grocery store and they had this Bubbler for $14.99. I couldn't believe it and snatched one up.

Let me say, this one is not only considerably cheaper, but holds more water than the Drinkwell, is easier to clean than the Drinkwell and is quieter than the Drinkwell. I so regret spending that much money on the Drinkwell now.

The Bubbler air pump is not in the bowl, it connects to it by a hose so the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bubbler Works, January 8, 2007
By
After doing tons of research on many different models, I bought the Bubbler. Many of the other product reviews talked about difficulty of cleaning and the necessity of keeping the water at a certain level. I personally don't believe that water filtration is a big deal. Cats just want water that tastes fresh and is reasonably clean. Within minutes of the arrival of the Bubbler, I had it up and running. The water tank is large and holds a great deal of water. This is important if you have more than one pet drinking out of it. Right away, my cats were attracted to the sound. One of my cats sat beside it and played with the water for 20-30 minutes. The reason I started looking for this product is that my tabletop water fountain died and my cats had always got their drinks from it. The Bubbler makes a lovely little bubbling sound very much like my table top fountain. Because of its placement in my kitchen, all of my 3 cats and 3 dogs drink from it. It is easy to clean and... 5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up for Bubble up, April 10, 2007
By
delquattro "delquattro" (Kremmling, Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
The jug is big enough that it lasts for over a week with 4 cats. The cats have never been scared by the bubbling sound. Two of our cats are Bengals and though they love to play in water they haven't really played much with the Bubbler, which is fine with us. We were looking for something that would provide a reasonable alternative to stale water dishes and this is it. It is simple, too.

A word of caution, though:

I broke the valve that is used to regulate the bubble action when I was setting it up. I pulled the valve out and hooked it up directly to the pump. Its fine and as I said, the cats aren't afraid of it. We recommend it, but be careful of the valve, it's pretty primitive and doesn't offer much adjustment. I tried to turn it too far and split the valve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use. Time Saver., January 11, 2011

This review is from: Drinkwell Reservoir, 70 Ounce (Misc.)
Customer Video Review Length:: 1:17 Mins

I have a 45lb dog and 2 cats so the fountain motor would be yelling at me right after one visit from the dog. It got so bad that my dog started avoiding the fountain and ate the snow outside instead. Guess she was tired of hearing the motor followed by my complaints. So I finally decided that I would buy the reservoir and continue with my laziness. I'm glad I did! 70 oz is the way to go!

I was worried that it would leak, like some reviews said, but there's only a small opening at the bottom of the clear plastic reservoir which drains water down into the fountain. As long as you line it up and tip it slowly, you won't have any messy spills. Very easy to install.

Hopefully I'll have a video review up soon showing the ease of putting it on.
Update: Sorry about the bad quality of the video, I recorded it with my ipod touch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Addition With Maybe 1 Desirable Feature Missing, June 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Drinkwell Reservoir, 70 Ounce (Misc.)
First let me say that if you are deciding between the 50 ounce & the 70 ounce, go with this one. It is not as tall & narrow as I anticipated based on the picture. I have had no issues with leaking as some other reviewers have stated. I find it easy to fill and attach with minimal spillage, even with the neuropathy I have in my hands. The feature that I wish it had is a removable cap on the top of the clear plastic reservoir. If it did, you wouldn't have to remove it to refill it. I plan to correct this with a hole and rubber stopper, but that's just me. It is not that hard to reattach. The difficult part is removing it when it isn't empty. You might ask: "Why remove it when it contains water?" I like to completely fill it before a trip so that the fountain does not run out. In the past we had to turn the fountain off before longer trips so that it wouldn't run low and damage the pump. With a resealable hole in the reservoir, you can top it off with minimal effort. With a dry food... Read more

The 70oz Reservoir for our DrinkWell really helps my wife and I save time on refilling and keeping fresh water readily available for our four-legged family members. Since we have two cats, which recently turned one-year old, they really like to drink LOTS of water from their DrinkWell filtered fountain. Interestingly, our Burmese likes to drink water mid-stream just after it flows from the outflow nozzle, but our Siamese likes to drink from the pool where the water waits to be filtered and cleaned. A must-have add-on to keep your precious small family members watered, healthy and happy!

As nothing lasts forever, sometimes you do have to replace items you have bought. But, the fact that I'm about to buy my third Petmate fountain is really a testament to how good this item really is. My cats have loved it from the first one I bought many years ago. I'm replacing the second one because its bowl had developed a crack after working perfectly for years. I wouldn't think of buying a different brand of fountain.

Yes, I have to clean it once in a while. The water is hard where I live, so in addition to normal cleaning, I have to remove the lime scale. I take the fountain apart, put it in my kitchen sink with the drain plugged, and pour vinegar into the sink. (I buy large sized bottles at BJs!) The lime scale comes off without scrubbing and without using a chemical that could hurt my fuzzy little guy.

There are four pieces that come apart, from the top: cover, reservoir for extra water, what I'll call the frame, (for lack of a better term), and the bowl... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best INvestment for your cats health!!!!!!!, September 15, 2011
This review is from: Petmate Fresh Flow Pet Fountain, 108-Ounce, Bleached Linen (Misc.)
I have had two of these and they last forever. The only reason I got the second is because I had more cats at one time and needed a bigger one.

I don't know how many yrs the first pump lasted but yrs, 3-4 at least, and that one I did not know I was supposed to take apart the little pump and clean it. which is easy when you read the book. It is 3 pieces to take off.

I made a comment on another review then decided to make my own here.

This is quiet if you keep the water from getting too low. THen it will start gurgling growling which is a good thing, keeps from burning out cos you hear it and put more water in.

I keep mine runnig 24/7, thats what keeps the water pure and fresh and the cats LOVE IT!!

I use double filtered water, water that is filtered with the high end filter at the faucet, the kind that removes all those icky pesticides , chlorine, and other chemicals from the water, and then pour through the brita picture which I... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars My Cats Like it, April 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Petmate Fresh Flow Pet Fountain, 108-Ounce, Bleached Linen (Misc.)
This is the second one I have bought. The first one still works, but it's getting harder and harder to clean. My cats won't drink from a fountain that drops the water like a waterfall. This one lets the water run down a slide and the cats will use it. The biggest con (and the reason it got 4 stars) is it is very difficult to open the pump compartment to clean. I fear I will break the tabs each time. I'm always amazed that I didn't when finished. I bought the first one in 2008 and it still runs.
